We operate in the heart of a vibrant city, yet tour in the peacefulness of the river Corrib, the fastest flowing city river in Europe.
There are a number of tours to choose from; boat tours, walking tours, themed excursions or you can customize your own private tour with us, and enjoy a seafood platter or picnic to complement your trip.
Meet the Oliver family, a team of professional seafarers, who will entertain you with intriguing tales of local history and Galway’s rich maritime history.
Join local fisherman Ciaran Oliver, one of the last surviving fishing families of Claddagh, on a trip around Galway Bay. Live the history of Galway’s maritime past and the traditional wooden sailboats, the Galway Hooker.
A visit to Galway would not be complete without spending time with a Galway Hooker – the traditional fishing boats synonymous with Galway since the 1800’s, includes a motorboat trip around Claddagh and Galway Bay.
Walk with Ciaran around Galway city’s most photographed sights – Spanish Arch, Long Walk & Port of Galway. Hear how it is steeped in history with tales of fishing in days gone by & visit the Galway Hooker workshop.
Create your own custom boat trip on Galway Bay. Gather your family or friends & have a picnic on the river under the buzz of Galway City or travel out to Salthill & enjoy a guided tour of the sights & landmarks on your route.
If you choose our boat tour, you will cruise along the river Corrib, taking in the sights of Claddagh, Spanish Arch, and the Long Walk before you cruise around the Port of Galway and Nimmo’s Pier, and then head out onto Galway Bay to the rolling hills of the Burren in the distance and the very best of Galway’s stunning coastal scenery. You can extend this boat tour, to add in seasonal fishing or go on a lobster safari with us, turning your trip into a full maritime experience.
If you prefer to stay ashore, our walking tours are designed to take in the famous scenes of Galway culture, and learn first-hand all about the Claddagh and the famous Galway Hookers.
Your guide Ciaran Oliver is a local Claddagh fisherman and has a wealth of stories and history to make your trip a memorable marine experience.
Our tours need a minimum number in order to run the tour – if this minimum is not reached we may ask you to reschedule your booking to another time slot or day. This is noted in the terms and conditions when booking.
However, if you are booking a boat tour with us, depending on the size of your group, private hire is a great option and it will guarantee your booking with us.
If we are unable to run your boat tour due to bad weather, rather than reschedule, we can convert your tour into a shore based one, at either Katie’s Claddagh Cottage or our Galway Hooker Museum. We can provide the alternative tour about Galways Maritime Heritage, and our connection with Claddagh and the Galway Hooker, at either venue with the addition of tea/coffee.
